Institutions and bodies of the department
The Faculty of Law currently comprises 21 chairs including one endowed chair as well as two other professorships assigned to nine institutes. The department administration and most of the institutes are located in the building of the Law Institute (Juridicum, JDC), Schillerstr. 1, 91054 Erlangen. The Institute of Business Law is located in Nuremberg and supervises the legal education of the students of the Faculty of Business and Economics.
Management of the Department
The management of the department is the responsibility of the collegial management. Its decisions are implemented by the spokesperson of the department as the executive head. The spokesperson of the department is also the dean or vice-dean of the Faculty of Law and Economics, alternating with the spokesperson of the Faculty of Economics.
Collegial Management
The collegial management is responsible for all matters concerning the department. Representatives of the faculty’s members include professors, academic staff, other staff, students, and the Women’s Representative.
Dean of the Faculty/Speaker of the Faculty: Dr. Jochen Hoffmann
The spokesperson of the faculty implements the decisions of the collegial management and conducts the day-to-day business of the faculty. They are elected among the professors for a period of two years. Please contact the department spokesperson via the department administration.

Commissioner for Academic Teaching/Dean of Studies
The Dean of Studies is specifically responsible for academic teaching in the Faculty of Law. Their task is to organise the courses offered by the department and to ensure that students are properly supervised. Suggestions, requests and criticism are welcome anytime.

The Chairman of the Examination Committee for the University Law Examination is Prof. Dr. Christoph Safferling.
Service Unit „Teaching and Student Counselling

Student Council
The Student Council is the student representation of the Faculty of Law. Its spokesperson is the student representative in the Collegial Management and is elected annually by the students of the department.
